EXCELLENTVerified Awesome experience with Squalo Divers Juan and Alejandro! Squalo Divers in Puerto Morelos was perfect! We signed all forms online the night before so all we had to do was show up and suit up! They met us at The Dive Bar on the beach right next to our Oceanfront hotel and took care of everything from Start to Finish! Juan was an excellent dive guide who clearly has a lot of skill and knowledge! He made me feel right at home on the reef and we had some fun taking photos of the marine life and some beautiful green sea turtles snacking on sea grass! Meanwhile Alejandro helped my cousin to Snorkel and made her feel safe and helped her to have fun! It was her first snorkel experience in 40 years and she had a great time. Thank you Juan (the boss).Verified Amazing Advanced OWD Course I did my Advanced Open Water certification with Squalo Divers in February 2024. It took 3 days to complete and contained 6 dives in total, 2 dives a day. I chose a program with Cavern and Wreck dives as elective adventure dives so the course was more expensive compared to what other dive centers in Cancun offer. But it was totally worth it. First, a week in advance, I contacted the shop owner Juan, we discussed the planned schedule, and after the payment I received access to PADI online course, which I had to complete before going in water. It was great that I had a whole week to complete the theory and could concentrate on practical skills during the dive days. On the first day, we went Cavern diving. In the shop I got the full gear including 5mm wet suit and dive computer, which I’ve never had a chance to use before. They told me a little bit of history of cenotes in the area with interesting facts, shared a few tips about diving in caverns and then, me and the instructor Alex, went on their car to a place near Puerto Morelos, where we dove in Kin-Ha and Maravilla cenotes. It was out of this world experience, completely different from diving on reefs in the ocean, which I will never forget. The excitement and thrill of diving in dark water with overhead surface, and even going through the cloud of sulfur! Both dives were around 30m deep and took about 30 minutes (which was limited by my rapid usage of gas, and I believe if I had been more relaxed, we could stay longer). On the second day we went to dive on a reef in Puerto Morelos to sharpen the buoyancy and navigation skills. At the shop Juan showed me techniques to improve my buoyancy and trim, and described how to use a few natural methods to navigate underwater. As this time we were to dive in warm water, I opted for 3mm shorty wet suit. I also got a wrist compass and the same dive computer. After an hour driving we arrived in Puerto Morelos, boarded the boat and soon were in the water, where I practiced navigating by sun and current, controlling my buoyancy and using different kicking techniques. Both dives were about 13m deep and lasted for 40-50 minutes (again limited by my usage of gas). And all of this while watching a lot of colorful fish and coral reefs! On the final day we went to C-56 wreck, which is also in Puerto Morelos, to practice deep diving. Beforehand Juan recommended me to try Nitrox for these dives to have longer no stop times and enjoy the wreck in full. At the shop, I paid a little extra for two tanks of EANx32, received my gear, listened to theory on using Nitrox and we went to Puerto Morelos once again. We did 2 dives on the same wreck, which were about 25m deep and 35 min long each, with 1hr surface interval on the boat. At the bottom, Juan showed me how colors change with depth, which was very informative and nice to observe with my own eyes. We swam inside the wreck with our flashlights which was really cool! Later we swam around the wreck to look at the abundant marine life: manta rays, barracudas, lion fishes, a turtle. We even noticed a small shark on the horizon! These were the dives that impressed me the most. Over these three days I experienced and seen much more than I had over the last year, gained important practical skills and had fun! In conclusion, I want to say that I have dived with a few dive centers located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone before, but Squalo Divers proved superior to them. Starting with good location in downtown Cancun, which was closer to the place I stayed and so cheaper to get to by taxi. Continuing with very personal approach in teaching, which included many theoretical and practical details on diving techniques. And finishing with professional staff, who are passionate about diving and love what they do. His instructions and pool training made us feel quite comfortable even before we got to the ocean. We did two dives in the ocean and saw some amazing fish and coral reefs. The first dive was in a shallower water and helped us acclimatize to the ocean whereas the second was in deeper water where we saw more interesting animals. To top off this experience, Juan is such a humorous person, it made our day.Verified Perfect Ok so I started my open water course in Jamaica and still needed to get 2 more dive in to complete it. Talk to Juan a few weeks before my trip to Mexico and sent him all my information I had from the other two dive to finish up a PADI open water. I had so much fun on my first dive the I booked two more the following day. Oh and to top it off he took us to eat some really good athletic food. Had an absolutely fantastic time diving with Squalo Divers over two seperate days. Two dives off Cozumel (wall dive & reef drift dive), then another two off Puerto Morelos (wreck dive & reef dive). The team at Squalo were friendly, hospitable, and super accomodating. They happily catered to larger capacity tanks for myself and Nitrox for the wreck dive. Good banter, great times and a team that are passionate about diving and giving you the best experience possible.
